Committee Reports

Fundraising, Rameka

Bari Sax Campaign and Quilt Raffle are both active.  We will focus our Giving Tuesday and general holiday giving to our bari campaign, in hopes to achieve that goal.

From a social media perspective, Is it possible for the marketing committee to take over fundraising initiatives after they have gone live?  It is not my competency nor do I have the capacity to support the continued marketing after the fundraiser has gone live.  I would love to come up with a process to “hand over” the campaign.  I would still support the fundraiser at our events/concerts with signage, etc.

Merch - I am working on finalizing designs for scarves and socks.  I will likely order 50 of each, so that we don’t have excess inventory.

If we order 50 scarves and sell at $25, we will make $500 profit.

*If we order 60 pairs of socks and sell at $25, we will make $450 profit.

*$25 feels expensive for socks.  I might trying to find another option.

Marketing, Joy

Nothing new to report. Willing to take over the marketing aspect for fundraising campaigns.

Membership, Rose

Going to try and do a cookie exchange again. Maybe the week before the holiday concert on the 7th. We want to plan a social event like a game night or something before the return rehearsal on the 11th. Working on compiling a list of concerts performed by members.

Performance Opportunities, Rose and Steven

Nothing to report.

Election Committee

The plan was to close the nominations tonight at midnight and have a meeting tomorrow to discuss the nominees and see if we needed to conduct interviews. The goal was to have a slate recommended for the board to vote on by the December meeting.

We have unfortunately not received any responses to apply for the board.

I have a list of people that have been nominated by others that I will message and see if they’re interested in joining our board. I have been out of the country since the 3rd and did not check on this, otherwise I would have hopped on it sooner.

Fall concert went great in spite of the logistic hiccups with the Gem.  Many thanks to all who helped with load-out/in/out/in.  MWAH!

Holiday concert should be great. Price difference with risers at the holiday concert will be $6500.00 v $2750.00 without. I think we have to go without but happy to hear thoughts to the contrary. Followed up with the zoo and I’m still waiting response.  We received a Metzler-Copaken Grant for $4500.00  this goes directly to assist with payment at the Folly. NTDF next round due end of December and I’ll be working on that grant.
Guard bootcamp. Would love to kick the guard off in January with ?biweekly? instruction to get new potential guard members participating so we have a bigger presence at the parades.
Potential dates for 22nd season.  Do we wanna be at the Gem? I do because it’s the most space and where we sound the best. Is the hassle worth it?

MMJO is on winter break and will resume in February. Sound equipment did not work at our last gig, we’ll need a solution in time for our next concert on April 19th, so there is a little time but we should keep it front of mind.

Board Chair, Alex

Thank you to everyone who has stepped up and helped out while I’ve been gone. Due to health concerns I will have to step down after this term.

  • Two important things….I will be out of town on business travel the week before the December concert so…

    • We need to determine who will drive the truck for load in that week (and what day we’re loading in). I can arrange the truck for either NKC or Olathe as needed (more than likely)

    • In theory, I should be back Saturday (I land at 1900 on Friday night) but, knowing Erin won't be there Saturday, it would be good to have some people pre-identified for FOH so that I can train on Flipcause. I’m happy to facilitate a short training in-person or virtually a couple weeks before the concert.

  • In other business…

    • Good conversation with Flipcause today. I’ll comment on some of the things verbally.

    • Lee sent me potential dates for next season but I have not yet had a chance to investigate them with venues.

    • During the jazz concert, we discovered technical issues with our audio rig. Need more investigation to determine what is actually causing the issue. There are 3 likely points of failure - (1) desk/board, (2) EQ, and (3) amps. The third is the most likely in my opinion. If that proves out, there are a couple possible paths forward - some cheaper than others.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic has been returned to Chatfield.

Website updated to advertise the holiday concerts, we still need a final date for the zoo concert so I know which one to put on the top of the home page before the holiday concert is over. If we don’t get a date before then I’ll put the Mighty Mo concert up next.

Should we retire the online store? We haven’t had any orders on it in at least 6 months, if not longer. We could also ‘hide’ it and leave only the band’s performance shirts on there for the band.
