Bad Drag - Is it too much to try and do this in June for Pride?

Gael’s - They will only host a private event of this type on a Tuesday.  They have 6/6, 6/13 & 6/20 available (if we want a June date).  Our cost is $10pp in food, we can charge for tickets.  This is instead of the $2,500 F&B fee.  An addition $300 is for DJ.

Additionally, they host monthly “Meals on Heels” a regular drag show with a nonprofit as the benefactor.  We are looking at being considered for some dates in the fall.

If we do not want to do a Tuesday (I can understand), then I have an inquiry back out to Buddy at Sidekicks to reconfirm dates.

Merch for Consideration:

Sunglasses - $4 each for 100 (our cost), I would sell for $7-8 each for ~$350 profit.

Sunglasses 2

Custom Clack Fan - $13 each for 100 (our cost), I would sell for $20 each for ~$700 profit.

Rainbow Koozie - $2 each for 250 (our cost), I would sell for $3-4 each for ~$150 profit.

Jersey  (there are lots of options) - I haven’t connected with this company yet, but rack pricing is ~$35 per.

Do we want anything for our Pride booth?

Charlie Grace will be heading the member spotlight. Most likely 2 members a week. Also looking at starting more regular social events that are smaller scale.

Does the board wish to rescind Christian from contractually binding MAFB and give Alex empowerment to contractually bind MAFB? Steven moves and JJ seconds the motion. Motion passes.

Artistic Director, Lee

Need to start pushing advertisements for the May Concert Band performance. Still looking for a date for the fall concert for next year. Missouri Arts Council requires 4 concerts per season, so we’ll need to add another performance.

Assistant Artistic Director, Jessie

Jazz band sounds GREAT, and I’m looking forward to our upcoming performance on April 22nd. It will be in the St. Andrew’s undercroft at 7:30 p.m. Do we have anyone that can do front of house for us? We may need either signs or volunteers upstairs to help direct traffic to the undercroft (and elevator for those that need it). It would also be great to have some sort of a setup team that can help with the jazz sound equipment, setting up chairs, etc.

Ian/Alex: would I be able to access the storage unit before our rehearsal on the 20th? I’d like to bring all of the sound equipment over that day so soloists get a chance to rehearse with it.

I notice that there is $75 earmarked in the budget for Facebook Ads for Mighty Mo, can we please get our event boosted with that? $25 should be more than enough for one show.

Board Chair, Alex

I’m starting to work on the budget. If you have any requests for this upcoming budget, please let me know ASAP. Here is last year’s for reference

Please fill out this survey. It only takes a couple of minutes and will help me know where we need to focus our energy. Thank you to those who have filled it out already. Some patterns that I’m seeing in the responses so far include:

  • Strong membership and musicality

  • We need more involvement at the Committee Level

  • Many of our current processes could use some shaping up/refining

We should ask our insurance to reconsider our coverage for our storage unit since we’re moving past the temporary use status. We should revisit instrument loan agreements.

Jeanine, Librarian

As you might know, this season marks my 7th as MAFB's librarian. Starting next season, I would like to have an Assistant Librarian who is responsible for Jazz and Pep music. These two groups do not take up as much time compared to Concert Band in terms of scanning because the pieces are shorter, but the needs are less predictable due to the nature of the groups' gigs. I would like the Board's help in advertising the role and identifying a suitable candidate. I'm happy to chat with anyone who's interested in order to answer any questions, and I've also prepared this document that provides an overview of the tasks and responsibilities. (I see there's also a formal job description in the Staffing folder that appears adequate but less detailed.) This person could, but would not be required to, take over as the primary librarian in the future to further smooth the transition.

My intention is to end my tenure as librarian after 10 seasons, which would be the 25-26 season. If we were to host the Pride Bands conference in 26 or 27, I would be willing to serve as conference librarian if needed, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

I've enjoyed (and continue to enjoy!) my time as librarian, and this decision comes only from the knowledge that it's not something I'll be able to do forever. I know historically it's been difficult for the organization to find someone who has the capacity to stick with the position long term, which is why I'm giving a lot of lead time to put this process in place.

I'd welcome feedback on this proposal and would be open to discussing it further and answering any questions.
